Anna Masecchia

Lecturer and Researcher in Cinema at the Università degli Studi di Firenze

Associate Professor at the Università degli Studi di Firenze (Dipartimento SAGAS II, SSD PEMM-01/B – Cinema, fotografia, radio, televisione e media digitali). Her main research areas include star studies (PRIN Divagrafie), the relationships between cinema, literature, and the other arts, and the popular roots of Neapolitan multimedia entertainment in the 1910s and 1920s. In addition to numerous articles and the forthcoming monograph Les plages d’Agnès (Carocci, 2024), she has published Al cinema con Proust (Marsilio, 2009) and Vittorio De Sica. Storia di un attore (Kaplan, 2012). She co-conceived and co-edited Cinema, letteratura, media (Carocci, 2023, with Giulia Carluccio and Stefania Rimini), Pianeta Varda (ETS, 2022, with Luca Malavasi), and Vedi Napoli e po’ mori. Lo spettacolo popolare partenopeo tra canzone napoletana, cinema muto e identità culturali (LIM, 2019, with Enrico Careri). She curates film series and retrospectives and is активно engaged in the public dissemination of film culture.

The National Committee for the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of Elvira Coda Notari was established with the aim of restoring the first woman director in Italian cinema, and her work, to their rightful central place.
