Curator, film producer, and promoter of the Committee

Teacher, cultural practitioner, curator, and film producer, her career is grounded in the connection between education and culture, training and film production, with the aim of fostering the human and civic growth of the wider community. After more than 20 years in cultural associations, she founded and now chairs Parallelo 41 produzioni, which has produced more than 40 works including short films, documentaries, and independent features. These include: Corde, La seconda natura, Il segreto, Le cose belle, Pagani, Aperti al pubblico, Non può essere sempre estate, Rosa pietra stella, Agalma, L’Armée Rouge, Lievito, La giunta, Procida, works selected and awarded at international festivals including Venice, Locarno, Rotterdam, Sarajevo, Thessaloniki, Cinéma du Réel, Visions du Réel, Lisbon, TFF, Festival dei Popoli, and Biografilm. Among the main recognitions are a David di Donatello nomination and two Nastri d’Argento awards. In Naples she created numerous film series, including AstraDoc, Il cinema del pensiero, and Europa Cinema al femminile, which are still active in the city today. Since 2011 she has been the creator and director of the film series Venezia a Napoli. Il Cinema Esteso. Over the years, guests in her initiatives have included Ken Loach, Frederick Wiseman, Spike Lee, Sally Potter, Ralph Fiennes, Laurent Cantet, Amos Gitai, Mohsen Makhmalbaf, Zhao Liang, Shinya Tsukamoto, Tsai Ming-liang, Laurie Anderson, and Céline Sciamma. From 2014 to 2018 she coordinated FILMAP – Atelier di cinema del reale, through which she produced the creative documentaries made by its students. In 2020 she was selected for the European programme Emerging Producers, and in 2022 she was awarded the title of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres of the French Republic for her commitment to promoting French cinema in Naples.

The National Committee for the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of Elvira Coda Notari was established with the aim of restoring the first woman director in Italian cinema, and her work, to their rightful central place.
