Coordinator of the School of Cinema, Audiovisual and Photography at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli

PhD in Visual Studies, she teaches Film History at the Università di Napoli L’Orientale and at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli, where she coordinates the School of Cinema, Photography and Audiovisual. An essayist and critic, since 2007 she has worked as a curator while also collaborating with national and international festivals. She has written essays and scholarly contributions on Italian silent cinema, Matilde Serao, the representation of Arab-Muslim otherness, North African cinema, Julie Dash, and other subjects. She has curated film series and retrospectives dedicated, among others, to Tunisian cinema, Third Cinema, Jean-Luc Godard, Béla Tarr, and Mohsen Makhmalbaf. Together with Gianluca Riccio, she founded Osservatorio Artinmove, a centre for research, training, and artistic production at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli, devoted to expanded cinema. Since 2021 she has been an expert trainer for the Piano Nazionale Cinema per la Scuola of MiBACT and MIUR. Since 2011 she has been a full member of the Consulta Universitaria del Cinema (CUC).

The National Committee for the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of Elvira Coda Notari was established with the aim of restoring the first woman director in Italian cinema, and her work, to their rightful central place.
