Simona Frasca
Associate Professor of Ethnomusicology at the Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II

She teaches Ethnomusicology at the Università Federico II di Napoli. She is a member of the Fondazione Roberto Murolo, of the scientific committee of the Centro Studi Canzone Napoletana, and of the artistic committee of the Associazione Alessandro Scarlatti di Napoli. Her research focuses on the Italian diaspora and the informal markets of recorded music. Her publications include Birds of Passage. The Diaspora of Neapolitan Musicians in New York (Palgrave Macmillan, New York, 2014) and Mixed by Erry (Ad Est dell’Equatore, Naples, 2023). She was co-curator of the exhibition Enrico Caruso. Da Napoli a New York. For many years she has coordinated projects for the musical accompaniment of early twentieth-century Neapolitan silent films. She is also active in public outreach as a music critic for several Italian journals. She plays the clarinet in the Orchestra Scarlatti per Tutti.
The National Committee for the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of Elvira Coda Notari was established with the aim of restoring the first woman director in Italian cinema, and her work, to their rightful central place.
