Journalist and President of Film Commission Regione Campania. A native of Naples, she graduated with honours in Classics from the Università Federico II and has been a professional journalist since 1982. Formerly Editor-in-Chief and head of the Culture and Entertainment desk at Il Mattino, as well as organiser of the newspaper’s major cultural events, she is currently an editorialist and curator of the sector-related books published by the same newspaper. Specialising in film criticism and reporting, she has covered, and continues to cover, the major international festivals and the most important awards as a correspondent. A jury member for the David di Donatello, the Nastri d’Argento, and numerous festivals, she is also President of the Premio cinematografico Fausto Rossano and serves on the artistic committee of the Pianeta Mare Film Festival. As an expert and essay writer, she was selected by Filmitalia-Cinecittà Luce to curate the films presented at the Mostra del Cinema Italià de Barcelona (2013) and Cinema Made in Italy in London (2014). For the Fondazione Film Commission Regione Campania, she conceives exhibitions and special events for the cinematic and cultural promotion of the region. As President of FCRC, in collaboration with the SNGCI, she brought the Nastri d’Argento Grandi Serie, dedicated to the leading figures of television drama, to Naples. As a researcher, she has written and coordinated essays on the socio-cultural system of Southern Italy, and for Il Mattino she has coordinated and continues to curate the Premio Letterario Internazionale Matilde Serao. She is a speaker and coordinator at numerous conferences. For the national publishing event Campania Libri Festival, she curates the section devoted to the relationship between literature and audiovisual culture, as well as the meetings with leading figures from both fields. Alongside her work in journalism and cultural management, she also teaches at university level as an Adjunct Professor in the Facoltà di Scienze della Formazione at the Università Suor Orsola Benincasa di Napoli. As a lecturer, she has taught postgraduate journalism Master’s programmes at the Università Suor Orsola Benincasa, UniSalerno, and SUN-Luigi Vanvitelli. Among the honours she has received are the Premio Europeo di Giornalismo al femminile Matilde Serao, the Premio Domenico Rea, the Premio speciale Matilde Serao, the Premio Personalità Europea per il Giornalismo, and the Premio Domenico Meccoli Scrivere il cinema.
The National Committee for the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of Elvira Coda Notari was established with the aim of restoring the first woman director in Italian cinema, and her work, to their rightful central place.
